Between the guided tour and the online tutorial, Four Winds Mah Jong teaches you how to play competitive mah-jongg. Essentially, it's rather like a game of rummy, wherein three players get 13 tiles and the dealer gets 14, discarding one. You form a hand with one pair and four groups of three tiles, either matching or in sequence in suit. Each run of three is called a chow. Three-of-a-kinds are called pungs, and four-of-a-kinds are kongs. You can only claim a discarded tile if you can immediately form a chow, a pung, or a kong.
The guided tour leads you patiently through a couple hands. Once it finishes, though, the new game penalizes you for incorrectly claiming a tile, which seems harsh. The music sets a mood, although we would have liked a more serene color scheme.
When you start a new game, you can set options such as which set of rules to follow. Cheat gta vice city pc free download. The downloadable Flash tutorial teaches you about game variations and tile suits. The trial version deals only two hands per game, but we found that enough to get us interested.

This is reposted from my article over on the I've had the good fortune to own a number of Mahjong sets. My primary places of purchase have been Amazon.com (here in the USA) and Ebay. Let me start by saying I play Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong primarily. The sets I have are either Chinese, Tiwanese or Japanese. Although the Japanese don't generaly play with flower or season tiles, all the sets I've purchased from Japan seem to include them - so the Chinese MCR rules are perfectly playable with those sets. Your typical American League Mahjong would not be playable with these sets as they don't have the extra tiles (Jokers and so forth) needed. Here is a sample of some of the tiles I have.
Nov 10, 2015. Inkscape has now pages support. You can create a multiple page document using Inkscape, just like in Corel Draw. Install this extension, restart Inkscape and you're done. Insert new pages, navigate through pages, print all pages in a single PDF. If you want to modify the location, just modify the tool command from the export parameters window. For Windows users: You can download pdftk from Follow the instructions to install it and save the exe file in a PATH folder. Edit multi page pdf inkscape mac.
You can see the designs are a little different on each - but the sizes and tonality (two tone where the back is a different color which I prefer vs. Single white tone throughout) are quite different. Some tiles include the Arabic numerals (great for beginners) though I prefer sets without. On Amazon, I strongly recommend basic Chinese Set. It is cost effective, has beautiful tiles and is a nice size for playing. It is Chinese and so will not include the Red 5's needed for Riichi play - but painting a dot on the front face of several 5s is easy and does the trick.
This set is depicted in my pics above as 2nd from the left. If you want a true Riichi Japanese set, I'd recommend on Amazon for a bit more money.
It has the nice red 5s as well as scoring sticks and the Japanese wind indicator, however the tiles are the smaller Japanese style (basically 2nd from the right). On ebay, you will have a much larger selection to pick from as everyone and their brother sells sets - often vintage sets that I don't see sold commercially anymore.

Here is a bit of ebay search wizardry I've used with great success when hunting down my mahjong set. Ebay has some common but often overlooked search string qualifiers that can be used to hunt down and showcase just relevant items. The first is the use of parens (, ). Anything between the parens and separated by a comma means THIS or THAT or THE OTHER THING. So, searching for (mahjong, mahjongg, pung chow) will return all items that contains one or more of those three words in the subject. The second is the use of the dash/minus -Xxxxx.
Any word that has a minus in front will be excluded from the search. So searching for 'Jong -erica -kim) will get you various items containing the word Jong but not steamy novels nor biographies of Il. Combining these two basic forms is the key to all useful searches on ebay. Here is the search string I used when looking for Mahjong books and sets: (riichi, pung chow, jong, jongg, mahjong, mahjongg) (game, set, tiles, book, books) -erica -kim -nds -ds -gba -gameboy -cd -psx -sega -ss -ps2 -ps3 -video -pc -arcade -psp -windows -xp -shanghai -famicom -xbox This finds a wide array of Mahjong related material but not video games nor tile matching games nor biographies.
It is not perfect, but it is 95% relevant. I then run this search on 'new items' with a buy-it-now so I can see newly listed sets (often someone will put up a really lovely set and just want to move it to a good home so it's well undervalued). I also run this search on 'ending soonest' auctions to see if there is any material that is going very cheaply. Well, it's a short guide. That may be its only saving grace I hope these simple techniques will help you hunt down some great Mahjong equipment in the future! Hi Dave, Do you have any info on where you got the set represented by the tile on the far right in your pics? I'm looking for that specific set.
I actually have 2 of those sets with the faux bamboo (it's all plastic, but made to look like a bamboo backing). Both sets were purchased on ebay. The backs are slightly curved - probably to replicate the bamboo feel.
They are really nice because the Wan characters have Arabic numerals and the Winds have NSEW letters but the Dots and Bamboo tiles don't. So it's perfect for teaching but still feels 'authentic'.
There were no jokers - dragons were all while (so it was a Japanese set). The inks were slightly darker - for example more black than green. I think I paid around $40 on ebay for each of the two nearly identical sets. The cases themselves were black and plain - I don't recall any writing or other distinguishing marks. PS: loved you in Apollo 13.
